Jesus the bridegroom

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.
You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, I have been sent before Him.
He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.

John 3:27-29

In this passage John the Baptist speaks about Jesus as a bridegroom.
Jesus is the bridegroom of the church.

And Jesus said to them, Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.

Mark 2:19-20

Jesus is the faithful and patient bridegroom, he came on earth to make a new covenant with men.

Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I say to you,[b] I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me. Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you

Luke 22:17-20

The new covenant Jesus offers us is a covenant of salvation, out of love for us, Jesus paid the price of our sins on the cross, he took our place.

When we accept the covenant of Jesus, when we repent of our sins and invite Him into our lives, we co-operate with Him.

Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
And at midnight a cry was heard: Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him! Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out. But the wise answered, saying, No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us! But he answered and said, Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.
Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Matthew 25:1-13

Let us not be like the five foolish virgins who have not taken oil, but wait firmly and confidently for the return of Jesus, and meanwhile strive to spread the good news of the gospel to our neighbor, our loved ones, our friends, our acquaintances.

The church is represented by Christians, those who follow Christ, the church is the bride, we must prepare ourselves, be ready for the return of Jesus, for the moment when we will finally be with him for eternity , for the marriage of the lamb.

Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Then he said to me, Write: Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb! And he said to me, These are the true sayings of God.

Revelation 19:7-9

Respond favorably to the invitation of Jesus, he invites all to attend the wedding, simply accept his invitation.

And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Revelation 22:17
